Join SIPwomen for a scintillating GirlDevWeek opening night for some wine + startups!

We welcome all entrepreneurial women developers to attend and enjoy some wine education (and wine!) by the customer-funded winery,, followed by startup demos looking for early-stage technical teams. Also, meet community leaders and join them in supporting and celebrating #GirlDevs everywhere! Hors d’oeuvres provided by SIPwomen. Beer provided by Heineken. This event is will take place at the new and impressive Galvanize Campus in San Francisco.

Movie Night: Love + Engineering Panel and Screening

Is there an algorithm for love?  Come join us for a panel discussion and screening of Love & Engineering, a romantic comedy documentary. The event will start at 7:30pm with a panel discussion where industry leaders with explore topics on dating in the digital era, hacking love through tech and more.

Love & Engineering, a 2014 Tribeca Film Festival selection, explores the question:  Can we crack the code for love?  Atanas, a computer engineer living in Finland, thinks we can. Using a theory he’s developed, Atanas has found himself a wife and is eager to test his hyposthesis on some of his single engineer friends.  Together, this charming group of computer whizzes conduct a series of experiments hoping to find the algorithm that solves the mystery of attraction, and be the first to establish a scientific approach to romance.  The film will be avalible on Video On Demand platforms Febraury 10th.  Find the film on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, Vudu, XBOX Video, and Playstation.

Jenni Snyder, MySQL DBA

Jenni Snyder has been a MySQL DBA for 10 years, and has spent the last three and a half here at Yelp. She loves how easy it is to start with MySQL, and the Open Source Community around it that welcomes new members. Her favorite aspects of DBA work are optimizing slow queries, eliminating deadlocks, and helping developers. After graduating UCSD with double majors in Computer Science and Sociology, she returned to the Bay Area and worked at, Aggregate Knowledge, and Cisco before coming to Yelp. A new mom, her daughter is an early crawler, and keeps her busy.

Molly Finkle, Front-End Engineer

Molly Finkle is a front-end tech lead at Yelp, where she develops reusable front-end code and consistent UI. She likes improv comedy and soup.

Rachel Zhao, Back-End Engineer 

Rachel Zhao is a a backend Engineer at Yelp. Originally from Beijing, she’s been enjoying working on Yelp’s international product for the past 3 years. When she’s not coding, she’s most likely eating, taking pictures of food, or on her way to food.

Tasneem Minadakis, Ads Manager

TasneemMinadakis is an Engineering Manager at Yelp working on the Ads team. Ads is the primary source for Yelp revenue. She is responsible for ensuring that we provide the most relevant experience for the user, while maximizing opportunity for an advertiser and hence make Yelp more money.

Autodesk and GirlDevWeek are teaming up to bring 20 lucky developers on a tour of Pier 9, Autodesk’s world-class makerspace built over the water at Pier 9 (click to watch a video tour of the space – it’s worth your time!). Our facilities include: a cutting edge digital fabrication lab, a woodworking shop, a metalworking shop, a 3D printing lab, laser cutting and printing capabilities, an electronics workshop, a commercial test kitchen, and an industrial sewing center as well as smaller specialty project areas.

Delicious sandwiches and snacks provided by Togo’s. Join us for a fun-filled night celebrating women developers, engineers, inventors and builders in our community.

Doors open at 6 PM.

DJ Umami

Dubbed “The DJ to watch in years to come” Bay Area born Umami splashed into the local scene in 2008 at Fingerbangerz crew parties and the iconic defunct Poleng lounge. Bubbling with an infectuous passion for music and dance culture, her craft mastery and career grew organically and quick. Within a year of rockin’ the turntables, she gained residency at Skylark with the prestigiously talented female DJ crew “Peaches” in San Francisco’s hip Mission District. She went on to open for acts such as Holy Ghost, Chromeo, Talib Kweli, DJ Maseo and more. In 2011 Umami founded her own weekly party “Crush” at SOMA nightclub John Collins and since then made it a monthly weekend party in Oakland at Luka’s.  In 2013 and 2014, she DJed the Nike Women’s Marathon, and was thrilled to become a rotating DJ for the Golden State Warriors.
A crowd-reading music aficionado both versatile and professional, sought-after DJ Umami rips eclectic, party-starting dance grooves, Hip Hop, Neo Soul and R&B gems at clubs, weddings, and corporate events throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
